Chapter Fifteen
Gale turned the heat up on max as Kevin shivered like a vibrating dildo. He’d love nothing more than to cuddle him close and warm him up. The evening had gone so well that he didn’t want to ruin it. He’d said no labels but in his mind, this had been a date.
The question was, whether Kevin thought of it as such.
And if he doesn’t?
Kevin made a sound of happiness as he warmed his hands in front of the vents. He looked content, his eyes bright, his lips pulled up into a soft smile. Gale remembered the way his face lit up as he bit into the grilled-cheese-and-pear-sandwich. Their meals had been amazing, but the company even better. His heart had beat with a wonderful ache as he watched Kevin interact with Lucky.
“I hope you had fun,” Gale said carefully as he steered them back to Kevin’s place.
The guy turned to smile at him and Gale’s heart stopped. “I did. And Lucky did, as well. It was really nice. Thank you.”
“I’m glad,” Gale said and threw him a teasing look. “I aim to please.”
Kevin chuckled, the sound shooting through Gale and warming him. The only way this night could possibly get any better was if—
“Do you want to come up for a little while? I could use some hot chocolate after this expedition into the arctic circle,” Kevin said and slipped his gloves back on his hands.
“Sure.” Gale did his best to quell his excitement, but he could hear the enthusiasm in his voice. He cleared his throat. “I have an idea about something and I need your help with testing it.”
“What’s that?” Kevin inquired.
“It should have occurred to me sooner but my mind has been on other things,” he said in a roundabout way. On you. Always on you.
Kevin grinned knowingly. It wasn’t like they could deny the sparks flying between them. Why try? But Kevin had seemed concerned about whether this was a date. When Gale had asked him out, he’d fully intended it to be a date. Their first and hopefully, not their last. The start of something beautiful. But Kevin being apprehensive about labeling it as such worried him.
Biting his lip, Gale considered diving in and asking why Kevin was so apprehensive about going on a date with him. They’d gotten sex out of the way so he’d assumed most of the awkwardness was behind them. Then again… he didn’t date very often. It was likely that he had no idea what he was doing.
The drive back to Kevin’s apartment was quiet, but relaxed. Kevin’s attention was on the window, his face serene as if he were comfortable. Gale wanted him comfortable. It made it seem as if no time had passed, as if he hadn’t pulled a shit-head move and ignored his friend.
He pulled up along the curb and killed the engine. Kevin handed him his keys. “Go up and make yourself comfortable. I’m going to walk Lucky just in case. I don’t want to have to rush out of the house at midnight when it’s a hundred below.
